My Little Girl is Growing Up! – Elizabeth Thompson Photography – Clarksville TN Photographer

I cannot believe how quickly time passes.  The older I get the more I realize how precious time is.  I have had to readjust some business practices, to make more time for my family.  Somewhere along the way my natural driven personality left me working much more and spending less time with my little loves.  Londyn and I decided to revamp her bedroom together!  What actually happened is that Adalyn and I had an agreement as to when she would get a “big girl” room, and since I had an extra twin mattress I asked Londyn if she would prefer a daybed to her full sized bed.  Then I found that awesome little antique brass bed on Craigslist, and the bedroom revamp was in full swing.  Although, it probably isn’t fair that Londyn’s room is done before Adalyn’s.  Londyn loves having more space in her room now.  I decided to do something a little different this time and touched on some lifestyle photography.  While it is not my speciality, it is special to us, as we have done this together and it also documents what is special to Londyn at this time in her life!  I hope you enjoy some of the highlights of Londyn’s new room!

Baby Photographer Clarksville – Elizabeth Thompson Baby Photographer Nashville, Clarksville, Fort Campbell, Hopkinsville – Handsome Little Silas

Little Silas was a barrel of laughter and fun during his session.  He was one of the most smily little 1 year olds, I have ever had the please of photographing.  He is too sweet for words and full of joy.  Oh, and let’s not forget all boy!  During his session he cracked himself up with a belch out of no where.  Seriously, I don’t believe they come any cuter!!! I hope you enjoy the highlights from Silas’s 1 year session!

Clarksville Photographer – Elizabeth Thompson Family Photography – New locations!

Photographers are always looking for new locations, props, and products.  Finding ideal locations takes time.  Ideal locations change over the year due to the changing of light and the surroundings.  For me, I love shooting in overgrown fields, by old barns, parks (without a bunch of people) and so on.  Some of my locations change, due to harvest, or mowing, while other locations have wildflowers that only bloom for two weeks in the Spring.  Whenever I find a new location like the one featured below, my little girls are usually my guinea pigs.  What I love about this location is the colors (that will only get prettier over the next couple of weeks), the barn, and the overgrown, untouched nature of the scenery.  I had driven by this location for years, and only found it while really focusing on my surroundings and searching out new locations.

This leads me to a bit of a soapbox, so some of you might want to stop reading now.  I had someone downgrade all digital photography to me the other day, basically implying that there should not be a charge for digital photography, because it’s “digital.”  There are some photographers who like to shoot on the side as a hobby, or for a second job, but there are a great many of us who run licensed and insured photography studios.  I love digital photography, and it has improved so tremendously, that I rarely miss film, with the exception of my own creative desires.  As for the costs involved, my equipment is more expensive than ever, and while processing has changed, the costs are only different, not less.  My time is the most precious commodity that I have, so yes, there will always be a charge for it.  I’m in the photography business, because I LOVE photography, but the first rule of business is that without profits, there is no business.  Thank you Air Force for allowing me to study my passion, and how to turn that passion into a thriving business.  I really did not include this as a way to harp, but more as a way to educate consumers.  Many do not realize what is involved.  I almost included my tax rate, but I did not want to cause any heart attacks 🙂

I hope you enjoy the photos!  This is the ultimate combination of passion for what I do, and the loves of my life!

Clarksville Photographer – Elizabeth Thompson Photography – My Girls…My Life!!!

When I sit down and think about how I ended up being able to make a career out of what I love, I cannot help but feel overwhelmingly blessed.  The funny thing is that, if it were not for my amazing little girls, and some great friends and family, I do not know if I would have believed I could run my own business.  I’ve had a camera from the age of 7, but I didn’t know anything about running a business.  Before I was blessed with my girls, I went through a time where I didn’t have more than a little 35mm point and shoot equivalent.  I was busy with life and thought I was going to leave the Air Force and start a career in the FAA.  That’s where I thought my life path was going.  Life has a way of changing in the blink of an eye.  When most women find out they are expecting, they go and buy books or blankets.  My first order of business, and new camera.  I thought I would get a nice film SLR.  The hubby had something else in mind.  This was the beginning of the digital era, and it seemed pretty exciting to me.  I can’t believe I paid $800 for a camera that was not as good as a point and shoot you could get today for $199.  That was insane.  LOL.  I quickly outgrew that camera, but we were a young couple with a baby and money was tight.  About two years later, I had saved for a DSLR (about $1000, CRAZY), just a little Canon Rebel , but it was just for me.  I wanted to use my photography skills to document the lives of my now two precious babies.  Oh, and did I.  I’ve always been a shutterbug, but when a shutterbug has children, watch out!!!  LOL  Then I had my little DSLR, and two 500 page books on photoshop, and I was having the time of my life capturing every bit of my girls lives.  I had these photos all over the house of course, and so friends start asking me to take photos of their families and children.  Then one day, a friend said “when are you going to start charging me?”  I laugh.  She says “no, I’m serious, why aren’t you doing this for a career?”  I didn’t know.  Even when I took the photography courses, I did it because I LOVE it, not to start a business.  From that moment on, my mind was made up with pure determination (doubts, insecurities, and hope) to turn my passion into a career, and as they say, the rest is history…

I know how blessed I am, but I also work very hard to constantly stay abreast of changing technology and techniques.  The number one reason photography businesses fail, is because they do not know how to run a business, so I’m currently finishing up my business degree.  Being behind the lens is just a fraction of my business, and even though it is what I truly love, I have to maintain a profitable business to stay in business.

I guess that was the LONG version of how these two little girls changed my life in more ways than one!  Thanks for stopping by.  Enjoy the photos!
